Overlay desktop over the current PCVR game

I often use my desktop while I'm next to friends in VRChat. If I want to see my friends, I can't use the Virtual Desktop UI, I need to use the Steam overlay.
Virtual Desktop has a better UI and better text rendering, and it sucks that I can't actually take advantage of that except when I'm launching or quitting VRC.

Due to how VD composes the stream on the headset it is not possible to stream VR and Desktop at the same time

I have made this requests in the past. I have also listed a workaround that does not require the steam overlay you might find interesting there: https://virtual-desktop.canny.io/feature-requests/p/desktop-overlay-in-vr-world
As I just commented in my old thread, I do believe it could be done well, by mixing the desktop and VR displays, on the PC side and have a single video stream to decode on the headset.

You can double tap the menu button to switch between desktop and VR view while a game is running.
Sadly having a desktop window visible while in vr view would be impossible as the quest can't handle decoding the VR screen and desktop at onece.

Have you looked at OVR Toolkit, which allows you to pull windows from your desktop into your VR environment, and place them anywhere in your VR space, opacity, etc. ?
